The living installation, Colonies  / The Mechanics of Adaptation, consists of two different ant colonies of the species Formica Rufa. These colonies have been installed in boxes around the room, each connected to a central terrarium in which there is flowing water surrounding an artificial island. The ant colonies move towards the central terrarium and island, where the basic necessities for life are located: water, food, and shelter. The colonies need to find a way to interact with each other, either by merging into a greater colony, isolating themselves and only accessing the island to retrieve food, or by fighting each other for territorial control. The island will hold the answer as to whether the "other" will be seen as a friend, foreigner, or enemy. It will also be a site of building.

Siirtokunnat / Sopeutumisen mekaniikkaa

2008, kaksi kekomuurahaisyhteiskuntaa (Formica Rufa -laji), pesäainekset, hunaja, puu, akryylimuovi, vesi, pumput, tuulettimet ja sähkötekniikka.

kokonaisuus 400 cm x 100 cm x 90 cm, pienet sivulaatikot 30 cm x 50 cm x 80 cm, suuri keskilaatikko 100 cm x 100 cm 90 cm.

Kaksi erillistä kekomuurahaisyhteiskuntaa (Formica rufa -laji) on sijoitettu pesälaatikoihin eri puolille huonetta, pesälaatikot on yhdistetty putkilla keskusterraarioon, jossa on virtaavan veden keskellä keinotekoinen saari. Yhteiskunnat kulkevat kohti keskuterraariota ja saarta, jolla on elämän perusedellytykset: vettä, ruokaa ja suojaa. Yhteiskuntien täytyy löytää tapa rakentaa suhde toiseen osapuoleen, oli tämä suhtautuminen sitten sulautumista yhdeksi yhteiskunnaksi, omilla alueillaan elämistä hakien vain ravintoa saarelta tai sotaisaa rajakahinaa toista vastaan. Saarella löydetään vastaus siihen onko toinen osapuoli näissä oloissa ystävä, muukalainen vai vihollinen. Saarella myös rakennetaan.
